The Virginian Pilot Tuesday October 17, 1967

Louis Eugene Hitchings, 90, of 6201 Powhatan Ave., the husband of the late Mrs. Elizabeth Knight Hitchings and son of Richard V. and Mrs. Virginia Wade Hitchings, died in a hospital Monday at 9:50 p.m.
A lifelong resident of Norfolk, he lived with his daughter, Mrs. William Portlock Butt.
He was a member of Central Baptist Church, Elizabeth Masonic Lodge 34, Norfolk Royal Arch Chapter 1, Grice Commandery 16 of Knights Templar, and Khedive Shrine Temple.
He retired from the Norfolk City Water Department in 1942 after 42 years.
Besides his daughter, he is survived by a son, L. Burgess Hitching of Norfolk; two brothers, Wade W. Hitchings of Alexandria and Brooks J. Hitchings of Newport News; a sister, Miss Martha Purcell Hitchings of Virginia Beach; and four grandchildren.
The body was taken to Hollomon-Brown Funeral Home.
