Thomas Hale Fifield was the son of Benjamin Fifield and Susannah Choate.

His first wife was Alice Elsie Carter. She was born in 1802 in Enfield, Grafton Co., New Hampshire; and died on the 11th of May 1844 in Indiana and her remains were laid to rest in the Old City Cemetery, Valparaiso, Indiana. Thomas and Alice were married the June 24, 1823 in Enfield, Grafton Co., New Hampshire.

His second wife was Susan Carter, whom he married September 25, 1845. She was born 15 July 1802 in Enfield, Grafton Co., New Hampshire; d: 2 Sep 1890 in South Bend, St. Joseph Co., Indiana, and her remains laid to rest in the Old City Cemetery, Valparaiso, Indiana.

Both his first and second wives were the daughters of Nathaniel Carter and Sarah Hoyt.

He married for a third time to Calista H. Johnson on the 30th of December 1850. She was the daughter of John Johnson and Abigail Colcord, born September 11, 1817 in Enfield, New Hamphire, and died 16 Jan 1896 in South Bend, Indiana, with her remains laid to rest in the Old City Cemetery, Valparaiso, Indiana.
