James Kinnard, married and a father, was an SP4 in the U.S. Army and assigned to C CO, 1ST BN, 8TH CAVALRY, 1 CAV DIV. A resident of Vista, California, Jim was a 1966 graduate of Vista High School, where he was a member of the football team, and had attended Palomar Junior College in San Marcos, California.
His name appears on Panel 30W, Row 66 on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington, DC.
He is also honored on the Veterans Memorial Plaque at Palomar Junior College and on the North County Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Carlsbad, California.

"Wounds Fatal To Jim Kinnard In Vietnam

A young Vista soldier died last week in Vietnam of injuries suffered in combat.

Dead is Spec. 4 James K. Kinnard, 20, U.S. Army, who was wounded Feb. 17 by enemy gunfire. He succumbed Friday.

A resident of Vista since 1960, Kinnard was a 1966 graduate of Vista High School. He was son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles E. Kinnard, 1175 Hackamore Road.

He was a member of Vista High School's football team during his years as a student there and had played Little League baseball here as well.

Kinnard was married to the former Christine Nicholson, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Roderick A. Nicholson, 303 Santa Clara Drive.

In addition to his wife and parents, Kinnard is survived by a brother, John of Vista; two sisters, Mrs. Donald (Janice) Iveson of Vista and Mrs. John (Joann) Burnette of Los Angeles.

The body will be returned for burial here. Services will be arranged by Allen Bros. Mortuary."
