Stephen Albert Hettick was born in Scottsville, Illinois, on March 22nd, 1847, and passed away at Larned, Kansas on September 1st, 1939, at the age of 92 years, 5 months and 9 days. He was married to Mary E. Turner in 1867 at Carlinville, Illinois. His wife preceded him in death, passing to her reward on December 23rd, 1923.

To this union fourteen children were born, six of whom preceded their father to the Great Beyond. Three sons, Sylvester, Edward and Babe and three daughters, Esther, Doll and Tina Martha.

He leaves to mourn his departure six sons: John Hardin of Silver Lake, Kansas; Charley M. of Exeter, Calif,; Albert Elmer of San Francisco, Calif.; Alonzo A., also of San Francisco, Calif.; Wilbur and Earl of Kansas City, Mo.; and two daughters, Dora Holzhey of Malta, Montana; and Elizabeth Schulte, of Rexford, Kansas, and a large number of grandchildren and great grandchildren and great great grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.

He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge for seventy-one years in which he was deeply interested and concerned. He was also a member of the Baptist Church, which he joined when quite young and remained a faithful member until death.
