"Thomas J. Kilroy, 89 Ret. School Principal
Thomas J. Kilroy, an educator, humanitarian and a retired school principal of South Oceanside Elementary School #4, died Wednesday, April 25, 2001, at St. Joseph Hospital in Flushing. He was 89 years of age.
The son of the late Thomas and Salinda Roemer Kilroy, he was born July 25, 1911, in Maspeth. He was the widower of Ada Kilroy.
Mr. Kilroy graduated from Callicoon High School in 1932 and pursued his higher education at the State University at Delhi, State University at Cortland and the State University at Plattsburg. He received his B.S. from New York University and his M.A. from Adelphi University. His graduate work was done at I.I.U. and Adelphi University.
Beginning in 1933, he served five years in a one-room schoolhouse at Acidalia, then taught one year in North Branch and moved to the "new" central school in Jeffersonville the following year. He accepted a position at the Oceanside High School in 1942 and retired in 1972 from South Oceanside Elementary School #4 as principal. A self-taught musician, he started another career after retiring, providing volunteer entertainment for the sick and elderly. It was common knowledge that he spent most of his time giving of himself to those less fortunate.
Mr. Kilroy authored many published educational articles. He was a past supervisor of the Oceanside Youth Center, active in the Association for the Help of Retarded Children and and a past Scoutmaster of Troop 230 in Oceanside and Troop 112 in Jeffersonville.
He was selected Oceanside's Citizen of the Year in 1983 and in 1989 received the Distinguished Alumnus Award at Delhi. He was a charter member of the Oceanside Rotary who honored him as a Paul Harris Fellow. A daily communicant and usher at St. Christopher's in Baldwin, he was also an active member of the St. Vincent DePaul Society.
Mr. Kilroy is survived by two nieces, Constance Poley of Cody, Wyo., and Ellen Hogencamp of White Sulphur Springs; and a dear friend, Ann T. Mallon. He was predeceased by a sister, Mildred Kautz, and a niece, Norma Kehrley.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered Saturday at St. Christopher's Church in Baldwin.
Burial was made in Greenfield Cemetery in Hempstead.
Wira Bosak, a 15-year resident of Glen Spey and a homemaker, died Wednesday, May 2, 2001, at her home. She was 75 years of age.
The daughter of the late Gregory and Katherine Pidhirna Sapadasz, she was born October 2, 1925, in Ukraine.
Mrs. Bosak was a member of St. Volodymyr's Ukrainian Catholic Church in Glen Spey.
She is survived by her husband, Wasyl Bosak, at home; and two nephews, Donald Pilczak of Glen Spey and Walter Pilczak of East Stroudsburg, Pa.
Services will be held at 9 a.m. Friday at the Gray-Parker Funeral Home in Port Jervis, followed by a Liturgy Mass at St. Volodymyr's Ukrainian Catholic Church with the Rev. Olesksa Kostyk officiating.
Burial will be made in Holy Spirit Ukrainian Catholic Cemetery in Hamptonburg."
