Felix W York was a son of John York and Nancy Steward, one of at least ten children. In a transcript of correspondence between his son, James William York, and a descendant of Felix's sister Martha Ann York Gibson, Felix's birth date is listed as 25 Jan 1835. The information given in that correspondence appeared to have been taken from a bible record. Even if that is the case, it is unknown who wrote the information into the bible or when that was done.

Felix's marriage record, however, states that he was 20 years old as of 23 Jan 1854, indicating a birth date of 23 Jan 1834. But because the marriage took place in March of 1855, it seems more likely that he was 20 in January of 1855, rather than 1854. There has, however, been more opportunity for error to creep into the transcript listing 25 Jan 1835. Either the 23rd or the 25th could be correct -- or incorrect. That information was probably provided by him, however, so in absence of evidence to the contrary, the 23rd is used here.

Felix married Mary E Akin on 22 Mar 1855 in Jackson County, Arkansas. They were the parents of only one child, James William York mentioned previously. Mary died when James William was about two years old.

In November 1861, Felix enlisted in Co. A, 2nd Arkansas Volunteers, for 30 days. He then enlisted in Co. C, 32nd Arkansas Infantry for the duration of the war. In February 1863, he was captured by the enemy but was paroled, and he returned to his unit.

In April 1864, he was in battles at Mansfield and Pleasant Hill, Sabine Parish, Louisiana. While he survived the battles, he was fatally wounded on the evening of 9 Apr 1964 when a fellow soldier's gun accidentally discharged while he was cleaning his weapon.

Felix was buried in a common grave with others who died that day.
