Central City Girl Killed
CENTRAL CITY -- Mary Lynn Carley, 16, died about 12:20 a.m. Sunday of injuries when the car in which she was riding collided with a train near here about 11:45 p.m. Saturday.

James Sauer, 17, of Central City, driver of the car, was listed in poor condition in Mercy hospital Monday.

The highway patrol said Sauer's car came over a hill and he couldn't stop in time to avoid the Illinois Central freight train at the crossing, three-fourths mile west of here on a black top road.

Mary L. Carley was born the daughter of J.R. (Red) and Mildred Johnson Carley on Oct. 2, 1952, at Cedar Rapids. She was a member of the junior class at the Central City community school. Her activities were annual staff member and cheer leading.

Surviving are her parents; a brother, Airman 1st Class Steve Carley, serving with the Air Force at TuyHoa air base in Vietnam; her grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Marshall Johnson of Central City, and Mr. and Mrs. E.W. East of Newton, and a great-grandfather, W.H. Johnson of Center Point.

Services 2 p.m. Wednesday at the Central City Community School gym, conducted by the Rev. Martin Miller. Burial: Mt. Clark Cemetery at Central City. Friends may, if they wish, contribute to the memorial fund. The casket will not be opened after the service. Friends may call at the Murdoch Funeral Home in Central City.
