Pearl P. Phillips (Phoebe Pearl Posten Phillips)
Mrs. Pearl Posten Phillips, 90, a resident of Route 92, Belington, and a lifelong resident of Barbour County, went home to be with the Lord at 1:10 p.m. Wednesday, May 18, 2005, at her home following an extended illness.
She was born April 28, 1915, at the Bartlett community in Barbour County, a daughter of the late Charles Hall and Eva Maud Lake Posten.
On Aug. 30, 1931, she was united in marriage to Gordon John Phillips, who preceded her in death in November 1984. They had been married for 53 years.
Mrs. Phillips is survived by one son, Ronnie Phillips and wife, Jan, of Belington; two daughters, Jeanie Kelley and husband, Butch, of Dayton, Va., and Ruth Freeman and husband, Herb, of Akron, Ohio; and five grandchildren, Mike Freeman and wife, Karen, Mylon Freeman and wife, Lisa, all of Akron, Ohio, Travis Kelley and wife, Stormi, of Dayton, Va., Becky Wentz and husband, Jeremiah, of Tulsa, Okla. and Wendy Phillips of Belington. Also surviving are six great-grandchildren, Mikey, Whitney, Cody and Chloe Freeman of Akron, Ohio, and Brooke and Alyssa Kelley of Dayton, Va.; several nieces and nephews; and her special pet, Pepper.
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by one brother, Gordon Posten; and one sister, Cora Williamson. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
She attended the schools of Barbour County and was a homemaker. Pearl gave her heart to the Lord many years ago, and was a member of the Mt. Zion Church of the Brethren at the Teter Creek community. She had attended the Lambert Chapel United Methodist Church before its closing and also attended the Sound of Triumph Church at Elkins. In later years, Mrs. Phillips was unable to attend church regularly but possessed a strong faith in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and was ready and anxious to meet him face to face.
Mrs. Phillips' greatest joy in life was her family. Her happiest times were those spent with her children and grandchildren. Throughout her years, she worked at home along with her husband, Gordon, crafting many items. Some of their crafts can be found today in many homes. Her home was always neat and well cared for and over the years her decorating abilities were utilized by others for many bridal and baby showers and weddings. She was a natural storyteller and relayed many wonderful stories of her life that will be passed on as a rich heritage to future generations.
Mrs. Phillips was able to fulfill a lifelong desire by remaining in her home during her final days here on Earth. Family members and friends were privileged to spend precious time with her sharing memories and saying goodbye. Mrs. Phillips was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt and friend who will be greatly missed by those who know her and loved her.
Friends will be received at the Talbott Funeral Home, 210 Brandenburg St., Belington, from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday until 2 p.m., the funeral hour, when services will be conducted from the Talbott Funeral Home Chapel with the eldest grandson of Mrs. Phillips, the Rev. Mike Freeman, officiating. Interment will follow in the Central Chapel Church Cemetery at Belington. Contributions may be made in Mrs. Phillips' memory to Mountain Hospice, Crim Avenue, Belington, W.Va. 26250. The Talbott Funeral Home of Belington is in charge of the arrangements for Mrs. Pearl Posten Phillips. From 20 May 2005, Elkins Intermountain.
