Worthy Matron Dies at Central

"Margaret Lucinda Porter, one of the old residents of Central, passed away Friday at her home in Central. She was born May 14, 1847, at Greaves Kentucky, to Joseph Benson and Mary Clarissa Lee Benson
. She was a faithful Latter Day Saint, joining the church in her native state when but a girl, in 1868.

With her mother, one sister, and one brother, she left home and friends to come to Utah. They settled first in Beaver where she met and married William F. Porter, June 27, 1869. From this union, nine children were born, seven of whom have preceded her in death. Her husband and two sons, William J., and Arthur Porter, survive. Thirteen grandchildren and eight great grandchildren survive also.

In her early life in Central, she served as the Relief Society President for a number of years, then as secretary for that organization, and later was a teacher of the society for many years.

She was always cheerful and loving, consequently her friend have been many and true."
