CONFEDERATE STATES ARMY
Born in Montgomery County, MO. to David Peveler and Sallie McCart, who had migrated to MO from KY. With his parents, he moved from MO to Iowa, then to (later) Fannin Cnty TX in 1838. By 1858 the Peveler family had moved to Young Cnty, where William worked with his brother John as a cattle raiser to supply beef to Ft. Belknap. As an officer in the Texas Cavalry, CAS, Wm.was wounded in an Indian ambush and died from his wounds almost three weeks later. He was unmarried at the time of his death. The blood-stained diary that he carried in his shirt at the time he was wounded is in the Texas State Archives in Austin. Research contributed by Jean Daugherty
