Needra Blew Dulcich
Needra Nadeen Christopher Blew Dulcich died peacefully on March 13 at St. Luke's Hospital in Texas, with her husband, Cliff Dulcich, by her side. She was 77.

She had received a diagnosis of cancer and died from the complications due to her chemotherapy treatments. She will be greatly missed by many here in Mariposa and throughout her travels with Cliff.

Needra is survived by her three children: oldest son, Keith Blew of Carlsbad; her middle child and second son, Bryan Blew, of Mariposa; and her only daughter, Lauri Blew Henry, also of Mariposa. She also had five beautiful grandchildren, Keasha Blew, Kristi Blew, Kyle Blew, Adrianne Henry, and Devon Blew; and she had two awesome great-grandchildren, Tynen Christopher Smith and Dara Nadine Breece, both namesakes of hers.

Needra was born in Monte Vista, Colo. in 1935, to Winnifred Donnelly Christopher and Julius Christopher. At the age of three, she lost all her hair. Falling out in large circular patches, she lost it all, eyelashes, eyebrows, everything. In 1938, they had no diagnosis. She seemed fine in every other way and so lived for about 50 years before she got a name to her malady, alopecia areata, not a freak, not so different, just hairless. When they finally came up with a name for her ailment, she became active in the Alopecia areata foundation and is one of the longest cases of continuous hair loss. She never regained her hair, so for 74 of her 77 years, she was completely bald. She was also a longtime member of Alcoholics Anonymous and had 31 years of sobriety. She got sober in Santa Cruz on June 7, 1980, and continued to be a strong member of the fellowship here in Mariposa for many years.

She graduated from Mariposa County High School in 1953, where she enjoyed studying music, drama, and dreamt of being a journalist. So after graduation, she headed to San Francisco to find herself, where she met her first husband and father of her children. She pursued her love of the theater and was very active in the Little Theater of Santa Cruz, where she acted, housed costumes and helped with props. She stayed in that area for many years, raising her children and retiring from Santa Cruz County, after which, she returned to Mariposa, living once again in her childhood home.

After five years after the death of her second husband, Needra met up with a man she'd known since around 1945, at an MCHS reunion, Cliff Dulcich. Cliff had lost his wife a few years earlier, and he asked her if she wanted to go on a road trip with him. So off they went in his RV to points "that way," joining a group called the "Escapees."

They ended up getting married a year after leaving Mariposa. So, on June 15, 2007, she became Needra Dulcich, here in Mariposa at New Life Christian Fellowship, and she spent the next five years on the road, living in an RV, experiencing America, going on cruises, seeing old friends and making new ones and having the time of her life. She was very happy, and her children thank Cliff for giving their mom a happy ending.

Needra's celebration of life will be held at New Life Christian Fellowship on April 28 from noon to 3 p.m. There will be refreshments and a chance to say goodbye. In lieu of flowers, donations should be made to the Alopecia Areata Foundation.
