ST. GEORGE - Virginia Smith Musser died peacefully in the arms of her children on Wednesday, July 27, 2005 in St. George, Utah.

Virginia was born in Logan, Utah on December 14, 1920, to David Winter Smith and Evelyn Lowry Smith.

Virginia has had a life filled with service. She started early learning all the homemaking arts and participating in 4H club where she won national honors with her canning. Her stories of adventures with her two brothers have inspired children and grandchildren through the years and will always be remembered.

Virginia attended the University of Utah where she met Barr McCune Musser. They were married on July 22, 1942 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple. They both continued their studies and graduated while expecting their second child.

Together Barr and Virginia raised five daughters and one son who were always the best dressed because of Virginia's sewing talents. The family has wonderful memories of family time together and a rich heritage of love and service to live up to.

In 1972, after the untimely death of her sweetheart, she went to work at J.C. Penney and worked the next 28 years to finish raising her family and continued teaching her children. During that time she was called to serve a two year mission in the LDS Church's Pilot Genealogy Extraction Program, where she continued serving for the next 28 years. Also during that time she was a weekly temple attender.

At the age of 76, Virginia served a mission for the LDS Church to London England following in the footsteps of her great grandfather Samuel H. Smith, who was the first missionary to the church.

Virginia was preceded in death by her husband Barr McCune Musser, her grandchildren Aaron Micah Jaynes, Aaron Scott West, Benjamin Jay West and Alissa Michelle Saad.

She is survived by her brothers, Lowry Smith and Glen Smith, and by her children: Janine Musser West, Linda Lee Musser, Cynthia Musser Jaynes, Wynona Musser, Virginia Gay Musser Jacobs, and David Alan Musser. She is also survived by 30 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren, four great great-grandchildren and a host of others who love her and cherish their earthly time with her.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, July 30, 2005, at 10 a.m., at the St. George LDS West Stake Center, 1285 N. Bluff Street, St. George, Utah. A visitation will be held Friday, July 29, from 6-8 p.m., at Metcalf Mortuary, 288 W. St. George Blvd, and Saturday, July 30, from 9-9:45 a.m., prior to services at the chapel. A graveside service will be held Saturday, July 30, at 3:30 p.m., at the Nephi City Cemetery, Nephi, Utah under the direction of Metcalf Mortuary 435- 673-4221.
