Brian George Bauer, 79, of Bemidji, died Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at REM Northwoods in Bemidji.
He was born May 21, 1929, to George and Eleanore (Stomberg) Bauer in Blackduck. He attended country school at East Inez, Kelliher and Blackduck. He was active in 4H, and played clarinet in the Blackduck school band. He grew up on the family farm in Cormant Township where he was a help with farm work when his health allowed. He liked playing ball with his sisters, playing games with the family and singing. He stayed at the family farm until 1965. Then because of his physical and emotional health, he lived at various group homes. He lived at a number of REM homes in Bemidji and was at REM Northwoods where he spent four happy and well cared for years.
He had a beautiful singing voice and sang all his life, especially hymns, singing all verses from memory. In later years, he listened to music for relaxation. He was a Minnesota Twins fan for many years and enjoyed going to Twins games. He enjoyed going for rides and traveling, especially with his sister, Darlene, including trips to the Black Hills, North Shore, and North Dakota to visit relatives. He enjoyed birthdays, Christmas, Thanksgiving and any weekend he could visit at home or his sister’s house. He worked at the Occupational Development Center in Bemidji for several years and attended the Day Activity Center Seniors Program in Bemidji for a number of years until he retired 10 years ago. He was confirmed and a past member at Zion Lutheran Church in Blackduck.
He is survived by a sister, several cousins and many friends.
