The Boston Daily Advertiser of 7 Dec. 1891 reported the fire and added the following, “He had returned from Lowell in the evening, and it is supposed that in lighting the fire he used kerosene, setting fire to his clothes. He was 48 years old [sic], unmarried, and lived alone in the house. He was a veteran of the Civil War, having served in Co. I, Fifth regiment.”
