Deacon Clinton Elbert Manning, Sr., 83, of 118 Connecticut Ave., husband of Mrs. Lillian Wood Manning, passed on Saturday, April 21, 2012, at 3:05 p.m. at his residence.

Son of the late Deacon William Manning and the late Geneva Sarratt Manning, he was born on Nov. 10, 1928, in Cherokee County. He was a member of Mikes Creek Missionary Baptist Church, where he was the chairman of the Deacon Board for more than 40 years. He was a graduate of Granard High School, a veteran of the United States Army and served in the Korean War. A retired employee of Overnight, he was employed there for more than 20 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children, Clinton E. Manning Jr. (Erica) of Gaffney and E. Sadel Manning of Fairfax County, Va.; two sisters, Elnora Littlejohn of Gaffney and Mae Velma Allen of Columbia; five grandchildren; and a host of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 28, at 2 p.m. at Mikes Creek Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Courtney Mills officiating. Interment will be in the church cemetery. He will lie instate from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service.

Attention all family, friends and visitors: Due to severe allergies of Deacon Manning's loved ones, please do not wear perfumes, colognes, hair sprays or other fragrances to the home or funeral. Your cooperation would be greatly appreciated.
