William's parents divorced in the early 1880s and according to his children, he never saw his father again. I met him in a nursing home in 1976 but Alzheimers had already claimed any memory he had of his life so he could not communicate with me.
William had an older sister named Mae/May (b. abt 1879) whom I have never been able to find. Her younger half sisters, Minnie and Mary Olive told me that Mae/May had a child "out of wedlock" in the 1890s. Minnie claims Mae went to an unwed mother's home in Colorado and married a man named Durham in the early 1900's. They also said Mae died about 1914. Minnie & Olive said their mother disowned her.
The 1910 census entry for her mother shows she had 7 children and 6 were still alive at that time. This indicates either Mae died before 1910 or her mother had disowned her to the point of claiming she was dead.
