Daughter of Bruce Hampton and Mertie Ann Gore Holmes, wife of Eugene Franklin Johnson.

MULLINS - Mrs. Carolyn Holmes Johnson, 81, widow of Eugene Franklin "Gene" Johnson, died Saturday, April 21, 2012 after an extended illness.

Mrs. Johnson was born March 23, 1931 in Horry County, a daughter of the late Bruce Hampton Holmes and the late Mertie Ann Gore Holmes and was reared by her aunt and uncle, Leila and Burris Suggs. Mrs. Johnson was a loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and homemaker.

Surviving Mrs. Johnson are three children, Dianne J. (Don) Thompson of Longs, Sherry J. (Buddy) King of Conway and Barry F. Johnson of Mullins; a brother, Lurie Holmes of Loris; 6 grandchildren; and 4 great grandchildren.

Mrs. Johnson was predeceased by a son, Michael H. Johnson; four sisters, Lillie Cartrette, Jeanette O'Quinn, Ann Cox and Eva Collins; and a brother, Hamp Holmes.

Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, April 24, at the Chapel of Cox-Collins Funeral Home, with Mr. Don Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in Red Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
