U.S. Army Specialist Five Harold Shelby Wood Jr., died in Vietnam on March 19, 1968 due to the injuries he received when the Helicopter that he was flying in crashed after experiencing a mechanical failure.

When Harold was growing up, his family moved quite often, as Harold’s father pursued a career as a Chief Warrant Officer in the U.S. Army.

But, when Harold’s dad was stationed at places where his family could not be with him, Harold and his mom would live with his grandparents in Muhlenberg County Kentucky, which Harold and his family always thought of as being their true home.

The Awards and Decorations that Harold received for his Military service, include: U.S. Army Crew Member Wings, the Distinguished Flying Cross, the Bronze Star, the Air Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Medal, and the Vietnam Campaign Medal.

Harold was 25 years old at the time of his death, and he is buried along side of his parents, Harold S. and Jackie A. Wood at the Rose Hill Cemetery, which is located in the Wood family’s beloved ancestral home of Muhlenberg County Kentucky.

Harold’s picture and the information contained in his bio were collected and provided by the 191st AHC Association.
