You sent me a correction saying Uncle Marshall was killed in South Korea not North Korea but you gave me no way to contact you back. If you will email me I will provide you with the documentation that I based my choice on.
Pfc. Marshall Earl Whiteman was KIA in Korea. He was killed on Carson Hill/Outpost in Un-Gok, North Korea 8 miles east of Panmunjom, Korea (which is right on the border of North and South Korea)when their position was overrun. At the time there were negotiations going on in Panmunjom that would shortly after lead to a truce. Marshall was a member of the USMC, Co B, 1st Battalion, 7th Marines, 1st Marine Division. He was posthumously awarded the following: Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, Korean Presidental Unit Citation and the Republic of Korea War Service Medal.
Marshall was the son of John Casey Whiteman, Sr. and Earlie (NMI) Sanders and younger brother of 2nd Lt. George Allison Whiteman for whom Whiteman Air Force Base was named in honor of. He married Shirley Jo Snyder, daughter of Joseph Theodore Snyder and Ida Lucille Palmer of Missouri. Shirley later remarried Donald Williams in 1956.
