Retired Engineer Succumbs in S.F.
Fred R. Birdsall, retired railroad engineer, died Saturday at the Southern Pacific hospital in San Francisco where he had been a patient since early this year.
The funeral will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Ross-Burke chapel in Reno with the Rev. P.H. Willis of Sparks officiating. Burial will be in Mountain View cemetery.
Mr. Birdsall was born in Iowa 69 years ago, and came west when he was 23 years old. He had lived in Nevada for 40 years, and was employed by the Southern Pacific railroad during that time. Four years ago he retired from the company service.
Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Celia T. Birdsall of Reno; six children, Gloria Birdsall of Reno, Mrs. Flora Collins of Carlin, Mrs. E.A. McKinnon of Sparks, Pfc Wallace Birdsall of the U.S. army, William Birdsall of Roseville, Calif., and Fred L. Birdsall of Carlin; two sisters and a brother, Mrs. Emma Vogel, Mrs. Katherine Grooters and Charles Birdsall, all living in Iowa. Several grandchildren also survive.
