Anita was the daughter of Damaso Antonio Rodriguez, a leather jacket during the California Mission days, and Maria Antonia Romero. She married George Washington Newton 08 Feb 1864. At least 12 children were born to this marriage.

Anita's marriage to George Washington Newton at La Purisima Mission was said to have been the first time a non-Catholic (G.W.) was married at the mission.
