Mr. John Francis Fischer, 91 of Frederick died Thursday, July 14 at Golden Living Center, Frederick. Twice married, he was the husband of Genevieve E. Hahn Fischer, who died July 13, 1969 and the husband of Harriett Catherine Garrett Fischer, who died June 26, 1997.

Born June 20, 1920 in Frederick, he was the son of the late John Francis and Margaret Violet Wright Fischer.

Mr. Fischer served during WWII in the European Theater with the 115th Infantry, the 29th Infantry Division from 1941 until discharged in 1945. He was a guard member with the 29th Infantry Division during the war and musician with the Military Band, played the French Horn in Marching and Concert Band. He also played the upright Bass in the Dance Band called the Doughboys. He performed in GI Shows and Band Concerts in many rest areas behind the lines in France and Germany. After the war, he joined the Clark Sheetenhelm Big Band as a Bass player and other combo bands in the area. He worked for M&B Printing as Bindery Operations Specialist for more than 50 years, retiring in 1989.

Surviving are four children, Ronald W. Fischer and wife, Thelma of Frederick, Kenneth M. Fischer and wife, Kathy of New Market, Phyllis A. Akers of Waynesboro PA and Reverend Douglas E. Liston and wife, Linda M. Glass of Wheeling WV; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren and a great-great-grandson.



Mr. Fischer is at the Robert E. Dailey & Son Funeral Homes, P.A., 1201 North Market Street, Frederick where the family will receive friends from 2-4 p.m. Sunday, July 17.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday, July 18 at the funeral home with the Reverend Carroll A. Doggett, Jr. officiating.

Interment will be in Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Frederick.

The family requests that memorials be made in memory of Mr. Fischer to the American Heart Association , Mid-Atlantic Affiliate Memorials & Tributes Processing Center, PO Box 5216, Glen Allen, VA 23058-5216 or charity of one's choice .
