Ethel Masters, Retired Joplin Principal, Dies

Miss Ethel E. Masters, 85, 2350 Utica Ave., died at 12:20 p,m. Saturday at a Neosho nursing home after a long illness.
Miss Masters was born March 1, 1890 in Jasper and had been a life-time area resident. She was a graduate of Kansas State College at Pittsburg and had been an educator for 51 years, including 39 years in the Joplin school system. She retired in 1960 after 22 years as an elementary school principal. She was the last woman to serve as a principal in the Joplin schools.
Miss Masters was a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Freeman Hospital Auxiliary, the Tri-State Writers Club, the Missouri State Teachers Association, the AAUW, Delta Kappa Gamma and the Joplin, Missouri and National Retired Teachers Associations.
There are no survivors.
Funeral services will be at the Thornhill-Dillon chapel with Dr. Ward Conklin officiating. Burial will be in the Park Cemetery in Carthage.
Pallbearers were William Brill, James Willis, Robert Dean, Gerald Hood, Glynn Sanders and Gary Dean.
