Charles S. West, son of Lysander and Ruth West, was born in Harrisonville, Missouri on August 22, 1865. He passed away August 11, 1953 at his home in Peculiar, Missouri at the age of 87 years, 11-months and 19 days.

He was married June 19, 1890 to Catherine Underwood who died April 2, 1906. To this union six children were born: Mrs. Leora Hargrove, Eldorado Springs, Mo.; Myra. who died in infancy; Moses L. West, Cortez, Colo.; Mrs. Reva Ehrhart, Colorado Springs Colo.; Mrs. Edith McCoy, San Bernardino, Calif.; and Kemper, deceased. On August 15, 1907 he was married to Mrs. Mary E. Birge[1], who survives. To this union were born Mrs. Mary E. Moritz, Kansas City, Mo., and David R. West of San Antonio, Texas. Also surviving are thirteen grandchildren and seventeen great-grandchildren. and a brother, J. K. West, fo[sic] San Jose, Calif.

The early part of his life was spent near Garden City where he engaged in teaching and farming. He attended college in Warrensburg, Mo. Later he engaged in the mercantile business in Latour and Peculiar and for a time was cashier of the Citizens Bank of Belton. For several terms he was presiding judge of the county court of this county. He operated procery[sic] store at Belton for 15 years, retiring in 1935, and had lived in Peculiar since.

He was member of the Christian Church at Belton.

Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 15 at the Peculiar Methodist church. The Rev. T. O. Parish of Kansas City, Kansas officiating. Burial was in the Belton Cemetery.
