James Frederick Barnes Sr., 85, died Oct. 4, 1997, in a local hospital.
Born in Norfolk, he was a retired supervisor, planner and estimator of aviation at Norfolk Naval Air Station, Norfolk. He was a Methodist.
Survivors include his wife, Helen F. Barnes; two daughters, Helen Louise Sewell of Virginia Beach, Marion F. Barnes of Richmond; son, James F. Barnes Jr. of Virginia Beach; a brother, Walter Barnes of Virginia Beach; two grandsons and two great-grandchildren.
A graveside service will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The family will be at Smith and Williams Funeral Home, Norfolk Chapel, from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday.
