James H. Lewis, 59, of Mishawaka, IN passed away at 2:34 a.m. Thursday, April 19, 2012 in St. Joseph Regional Medical Center, Mishawaka, IN. He was born on May 19, 1952 in Hayti, MO to Tobe and Roberta (Pollard) Lewis. On March 31, 1970 in Lansing, MI, he married Brenda Matz.
James is survived by his wife, Brenda; daughter, Kimberly Marie Lewis-Long of Mishawaka, IN; son, James Richard (Lisa) Lewis of South Bend, IN; mother, Roberta Lewis of Hayti, MO; five grandchildren, Kayla Long, James Long, Jr., Colton Long, Joshua Wilkins and James R. Lewis; three sisters, Ann Wilson of Lansing, MI, Wilma Lewis of Mishawaka, IN and Sarah Miller of AL and two brothers, Toby Lewis of Hayti, MO and Timmy Lewis of South Bend, IN.
James was special from the day he was born. He was a teacher to all, he taught you how to LOVE (which is a gift), laugh, work hard, respect and to care for each other. He was kind and giving. He gave so much of his self, he didn't take time for himself. He was a TRUE friend to all he knew, he loved everyone. James was self employed in construction. He was hard working, a great provider and a loving husband, father and grandfather. He will be missed by many. We know he is at rest. Take care of him Lord, he is one of the best!
Following his wishes, cremation will take place. Private services will be held by his family and friends at a later date. Palmer Funeral Home-Guisinger Chapel and Southlawn Cremation Services, South Bend, IN is assisting the family.
