George Perry Anderson, Whitley City, prominent McCreary County businessman, politician and good citizen, died Sunday, March 10 at the Central Baptist Hospital in Lexington. He had been ill for the past 11 months and had been a patient in the hospital about 10 days. He was a victim of cancer.

He was born in Wayne County on August 30, 1889, the son of Manuel Anderson and Kanzada Jones Anderson. He moved to Whitley City from Wayne County in 1920. He taught school in Wayne County and continued in the profession for a few years after coming to McCreary County. Soon after moving to Whitley City he became interested in Republican politics which became one of his life's vocations.

An ardent Republican, Mr. Anderson served his party on the district, county and state levels. He was elected and served as chairman of the McCreary County Republican Executive Committee and as his precinct chairman. He was Park Superintendent of Cumberland Falls during Governor Simon Willis' administration and was a director in the State Forestry Division. In addition to conducting his own successful campaigns he managed many races for friends.

A deeply religious man, Mr. Anderson served as Sunday School Superintendent of the Concord Baptist Church in Wayne County for several years after leaving the community. He taught in the Sunday School and was actively interested in his church and the religious life of his community. He was a member of the Second Baptist Church, Whitley City and a member of the Orie S. Ware Masonic Lodge, Stearns.

He is survived by his widow, Vieanna Burks Anderson; one son, Shoff Anderson of Whitley City; two brothers, Gran Anderson of McCuthingville, Ohio and Judge Elmer Anderson of Monticello.

A daughter, Mrs. Ora Lee Chapman, one brother, Luke Anderson and a sister, Gertie Bell, preceded him in death.

Funeral services were conducted Tuesday in the Second Baptist Church with burial in the Whitley City Methodi
