Before retiring, Mr. Hollen was a farmer and hardware clerk at Rockingham Co-operative Farm Bureau. He attended Bridgewater College. He was a member of Montezuma Church of the Brethren, where he served as former Sunday School Superintendent and church caretaker.
Mr. Hollen is survived by his wife, Genie E. Bussard Hollen, who resides at Bridgewater Home. They were united in marriage on April 17, 1951. Mr. Hollen is also survived by two sisters, Evelyn Hollen of Covington, Va., and Ethel Hinkle and husband, Stanley, of Bridgewater; three foster sons, Melvin Falls and wife, Judy, of Mount Crawford, Ronald Falls of Harrisonburg and Robert Falls and wife, Ruth, of Harrisonburg; seven foster grandchildren, Amy Brooks, Menika Falls, Joshua Falls, Corrie Green, Adam Falls, Thaddeus Falls and Jeremy Falls; 12 foster great-grandchildren; a nephew, Rick Hinkle; a niece, Sandra Kay Huffman; three great-nieces, one great-nephew and one great-great-nephew. Mr. Hollen was blessed with dedicated neighbors including his cousin, Judy Ringgold, and her husband, Donald. Mr. Hollen was preceded in death by a sister, Charlotte Mongold, and husband, Franklin, and a foster son, Johnny Falls.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. on Tuesday, July 21, 2009, at Johnson Funeral Service in Bridgewater, Va. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 22, 2009, at Montezuma Church of the Brethren with Pastor David R. Miller officiating. Janet Whetzel and Chaplain Jeffrey Carr will assist. Burial will follow at Beaver Creek Church of the Brethren Cemetery at 5651 Beaver Creek Road, Bridgewater. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Montezuma Church of the Brethren Memorial Fund, 4937 Ottobine Road, Dayton, VA 22821.
