Jean Kennedy, 88, long-time resident of Roaring Branch, Pa. (Union Township) passed away on Saturday morning, Oct. 31, 2009 at the Bradford County Manor.

Dorothy Jean Kittle, "Jean" to family and friends, was born on Jan. 25, 1921 in Granville Township. She was one of five children born in the family of the late George and Ruby Phillips Kittle.

After graduating from Troy High School in 1938, Jean married Harold Kennedy on Nov. 10, 1939 in Millerton, Pa. They were blessed with over 60 years together.

In addition to her devoted care of family and home, Jean was employed by the Troy Pennysaver and as a teacher's aide for Canton and Troy Area Schools. She has written several articles for newspapers and published three books on the history of the Kittle Family.

Jean was a woman of faith, a member of Newelltown United Methodist Church and was active in the Troy Fire Company Auxiliary. She was an avid reader, painter and loved games, rarely losing at Scrabble. She enjoyed playing the piano and singing alto, inspiring her grandchildren with her love of music. Traveling, especially trips West, South and to Alaska were her favorite times.

She is survived by her three children, Kay (Stan) Saxton of Granville Summit, Pa., Barbara (Clarence) Stone of Enola, Pa. and Harold "Buzz" (Kathy) Kennedy of Lewisburg, Pa.; seven grandchildren, Rebecca Polly (Gary) and Martha Havens (Craig) all of Troy, Pa., Emilie Ormond (Jack) of Smithfield, Va., Henry Saxton (Lori) of Granville Summit, Marcellyn Stone of Lusby, Md., Rodney Stone (Ginny) of Enola and Sarah North (Jaime) of Winfield, Pa.; eight great-grandchildren, Melissa Welshans, Tabatha Saxton, Patrick, John Henry and Benjamin Ormond, Lucas and Isaac Havens and Delaney Stone. Two surviving sisters include, Doris McClure of Troy and Fannie Ingerick of McPherson, Kan..

In addition to her late husband Harold Sr., Mrs. Kennedy was predeceased by a brother, Ward Kittle and two sisters, Marjorie Kittle Rumsey and Millicent Kittle Burnham.

A memorial service and celebration of Jean's life will be held on Nov. 14, 2009 at the Granville Center Church of Christ, Granville Center, Pa. Visitation will be at 1 p.m. with the memorial service at 2 p.m. Rev. Duane Taylor and Deacon Bill Graham will officiate. Interment will be at the Bradford County Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, her family suggests your consideration of a memorial to the Bradford County Manor Volunteers or Bradford County Manor's Physical Therapy Department Fund to purchase a Vecta Distraction Station both at RR 3 Box 322 Troy, PA 16947. Pepper Funeral Home in Canton is assisting with arrangements.
