Austrian stage and film actor. Spira appeared in more than 60 films from 1910 to 1935. Spira was Jewish, and at the start of World War II he fled Nazi-occupied Poland for Austria, from which he then attempted to flee when it too was annexed as a part of Germany under the Third Reich, but he was apprehended by the Nazis and ultimately died in a concentration camp--KZ Ruma--in what was then Yugoslavia. He was married to German actress Charlotte Andresen; both of their daughters, Camilla and Steffie, became singers and actresses.
