Myrtle was born April 22, 1917, to Ollie and Martha Poler in Parshel, N.D. She married Lester Sletten on October 22, 1938. Myrtle was a life-long resident of Eau Claire. She graduated from nursing school in Chicago, Ill., as an RN and was later employed at Luther and Sacred Heart Hospital for many years. She lived in an apartment on Mac Arthur Avenue for nearly 20 years, and thoroughly enjoyed a special touch of planting flowers and raising singing canaries.
For the past few years, since losing her sight, she resided at Dove Healthcare & Rehabilitation, where she was blessed with a very caring staff.
Survivors include her daughter, Sonja (Michael) Thorn, Barnes, Wis.; a son, Wayne (Joan) Sletten of Two Harbors, Minn.; sisters, Elaine Hume of Bozeman, Mont., and Betty Harder of Watertown, Wis.; seven grandchildren, Danette (Holden) Hanson, Sherri (Todd) Wizner, Jody (Douglas) Arnoldi, Amy (Thomas) Cavallin, Kelly (Reginald) Hiebert, Jacqueline (Paul) Solberg, Jamie (Matthew) Dodd; and eight great-grandchildren.
Myrtle was preceded in death by her husband, Lester Sletten; parents, Ollie and Martha Poler; sister, Evelyn Johnson; and brothers, Edward Poler and Lloyd Poler.
Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. on Wednesday at Stokes & Mundt Funeral Chapel, 535 S. Hillcrest Pkwy. (Hwy. 12 East) in Altoona with Pastor David Irgens of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Interment Forest Hill Cemetery, Eau Claire.
