Services for Bessie Lee Hancock, 99, Pembroke, formerly of Pennyrile Apartments, will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Fuqua-Hinton Funeral Home, with the Revs. Wayne Dickinson and John Christian officiating and burial in Riverside Cemetery.

She died at 8:10 p.m. Wednesday at Jennie Stuart Medical Center. A native of Stewart County, Tenn„ she was born Sept, 21, 1894, daughter of the late William Pinkney and Renie Ezell Robertson. She was a homemaker and a member of Second Baptist Church. Her husband, John Virgil Hancock, died in 1929.

Survivors include a stepson, Ewing Hancock, Greenfield, Ind.; a stepdaughter, Ruby White, Hopkinsville; and 29 step-grandchildren, 69 step-great-grandchildren and 54 step-great-great-grandchildren.

Bessie's husband, John Virgil Hancock was married 4 times. Bessie was his 4th wife.

John's first wife was Betty Chester (1864-1905). When Betty died, he married Emma Florence Robertson (1886-1910), an older sister to Bessie Robertson. They had at least 6 children.

When Emma died in 1910, he married Sallie Mae Robertson, another of Bessie's older sisters. They had at least 7 children. When Sallie died in 1923, he then married Bessie Lee Robertson. Bessie was 29 and John was 61.

Bessie and John had no children, but she was step-mother to at least 13 of her own nieces and nephews.
