Born Oct. 31, 1956, in Malta, the daughter of William and Dorothy (Mowers) Abbott, she married Steven W. Aurand on July 8, 1998, in Las Vegas.
Karen was most recently employed by Northern Illinois University in food service and was a former hairstylist. She enjoyed making crafts and artworks, sewing, quilting and gardening. She was a member of Kishwaukee Valley Art League.
She is survived by her husband, Steve; two daughters, Jennifer (Bill) Sipes of Belvidere and Heather Penniman of Cortland; granddaughter, Xyana Scaife; three sisters, Sharon (Jim) Freeman of Malta, Linda Petryka of Sycamore and Brenda McMaster of Malta; three brothers, Bill (Jean) Abbott of Mesa, Ariz., Woody (Claudia) Abbott of Missouri and Roger Abbott of Malta; and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a nephew, Johnny King.
The funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 23, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb, with the Rev. Robert Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow at Malta Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday, April 22, at Anderson Funeral Home, DeKalb.
