Deed records indicate that Calvin and Eliza migrated to Kansas circa 1858. Franklin County deed records show Calvin is grantor on September 22, 1859, of Lots N2, Sec. 33 T15S R20, Book A, P. 244; and grantee on June 7, 1858, Lots 3 and 4, Sec. 33, T15, R20, Book A, p. 444. This is about 2.5 miles east of Norwood in a rural area. Apparently there was some effort to establish a town there. The History of the State of Kansas, 1883, for Franklin County, p. 602 states that in 1857 quite a large number had settled on West Branch and on the East Branch of Ottawa Creek; Esquire Merchant, Calvin and John Leonard, and John Heek.
Calvin Leonard Estate, Probate Court, Osage County, KS, Case no. 2033. Property SW 1/4 Sec. 28 T 16, R 17 Junction Township. Proceeds to son William Franklin Leonard and wife Eliza Jane. Also lots 2 and 4, Block 4, Cloud Addition, Quenemo, also NW 1/4 Sec. 28, T 16, R 17, D. K. Lord, Executor. Will executed December 26, 1888.
The Lyndon, KS Peoples Herald (Thursday, December 24, 1891) reported that his first wife was Miss Lucy Jiles [Giles], married in 1840 in Orange County, Indiana. They had two sons, one killed in the Civil War by bush-whackers and the other, Franklin Leonard, now living in Coffey County (this was his heir). Calvin was born in North Carolina, moved to Indiana when 14 years old, moved to Kansas in 1859 (Pioneer settlement book says 1857). Married Eliza Jane Lane in 1853. Lived in Franklin County until 1871 when he moved to Osage County northwest of Lyndon, until a few years ago when he moved into Lyndon. However, Eliza was reported as living in Quenemo in Rebecca Lane's estate papers. The Lyndon report is taken from the Quenemo Republican paper, thus northwest of Lyndon was actually Quenemo.
