C. C. Heil, son of Mr. and Mrs. Christian H. Heil, was born December 22, 1873 in Russia. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran Church in Russia. In April 1893 he came to America with his parents and they homesteaded north of Avon. Mr. Heil farmed for a few years north of Tyndall and then homesteaded near Wagner. When the railroad came through here in 1900, Mr. Heil and his brother Louis started a hardware and implement business in Wagner. Dissolving partnership with his brother, he established a general merchandise in Meckling, remaining there only a short time. Then he came to Avon where he was in business for about 25 years in the general merchandise.

He was united in marriage to Miss Christina Stadel October 1895. This union was blessed with eight children. Mrs. Mary Vilhauer of Oakland, Cal., Mrs. Emma Goerner of Albert City, Iowa, Mrs. Frieda Gentling of Oakland, Cal., Mrs. Alma Grotenhuis of Oakland, Cal., Fred Heil of Oakland, Rudolph Heil of Lafayette, Cal., and Hazel Heil of Oakland, Cal. One son, Paul, and one brother and sister preceeded him in death.

Mr. Heil peacefully fell asleep on Friday evening April 20, 1945, at 10:10 P.M. He reached the age of 71 years, 3 months, 28 days. Mr. Heil had been ailing for over a year, and became seriously ill a week ago, when pneumonia developed.
