Civil War veteran. Company A, 2nd NY Cavalry

STRAWAY, WILLIAM. - Age, 20 years. Enlisted August 9, 1861, at Dover, N.J.; mustered in as private, Company A, August 9, 1861, to serve three years; mustered out with company, September 10, 1864, at New York City.

Williams parents were Henry Strawway (1818 – 1896) and Elizabeth Drake Strawway (1826 – 1870). In 1869 William married Martha McConnel (May 1837- ), with whom he had children: Lewis M. Strawway (1869-1911) and Bertis "Bertie" Eli Straway (1877-1967).
