Josephine Buckelew Newsome Thompson is the daughter of Abner J. Buckelew and Margaret C. Busby Buckelew.

She was married first to William Thomas Newsome, Sr. They were married November 02, 1910 in North Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama and they had three children together by their marriage:

(1.) Elise Lillian Newsome, who married G.D. McCaghren

(2.) Margaret Louise Newsome, who married E.C. Camp

(3.) William Thomas Newsome, Jr.

After the death of her husband, William Thomas Newsome, Sr., Josephine Buckelew Newsome married second to J. Freeman Thompson.

Mrs. Josephine Newsome Thompson, 70, Altoona, died at her home at 7:42 p.m. yesterday after a short illness.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. tomorrow at Collier-Butler Chapel, the Revs. E.U. Calvert and Herman Cobb officiating. Burial will be in Forrest Cemetery.

Surviving are her husband, J. Freeman Thompson; two daughters, Mrs. E.C. Camp, Gadsden, and Mrs. G.D. McCaghren, Sarasota, Fla.; a son, William T. Newsome, Jr., Florence; a sister, Mrs. C.F. Smith, Houston, Tex., and six grandchildren.

Mrs. Thompson was born in Adamsville and moved to Gadsden in 1917. She moved to Altoona five years ago. She was a member of the Altoona First Baptist Church.

Active pallbearers will be T.P. Bradford, Rex Phillips, Ellie Foster, C.V. Williams, Ernest Burton, L.C. Wright, C.E. Shelton, Wyatt C. Bruce, Capt. Jack Persall and the Rev. H.L. Gibbs.

Honorary pallbearers will be J.C. McCaghren, R.W. Camp, Edsel Hand, M.E. Stephens, Ralph Mackey, Jr., R.B. Camp, Ralph Mackey, Sr., J.G. McCaghren, Dwight Mackey and all personal friends.

The body will remain at Collier-Butler through the hour of service.

Funeral services Thursday 4 p.m. from Collier-Butler Chapel with Dr. Oscar A. Davis officiating.

Burial Forrest Cemetery.

Mr. Newsome was a native of Birmingham and a resident of Gadsden most of his life, he was a former resident of Florence, prior to moving to Lynchburg, Va. He was employed with U.S. Navy Department for the last 26 years.

Mr. Newsome was a graduate of Georgia Military Academy and attended Auburn University. He was a member of the Baptist Church and a veteran of World War II, and very active in Boy Scout work serving as a District Commissioner in Lynchburg.

The body will remain at Collier-Butler Chapel through the hour of service.
