Dorothy R. Ford
Dorothy Ruth Ford, 91, a long time Grays Harbor area resident, died Saturday, Dec. 30, 1996, in a local nursing home. She was born March 2, 1904, in Kent, to Jim and Rosie (Van Buekirk) O'Grady.
She had worked at the Grays Harbor Veneer Plant for 25 years. During World War II, she was a coast watcher for the Navy at the beach. She had also worked at a clam cannery. She was called "Ma" by the men stationed at the Pacific Beach Naval Facility and also by many of the local residents. She enjoyed reading and working in her garden. She belonged to the Culinary Alliance & Bartenders Union.
Survivors include close friend Helen Anderson of Elma, who Assisted with her care; and a granddaughter, Jessica Osborne of Hoquiam. A graveside service is planned for 2 p.m. Friday at Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam. Memorials may be made to North Beach Ambulance Fund at Pacific Beach.
