Mr. Harold J. "Smiley" Smith, 49, of 2041 Westcott St., passed away Saturday morning at a local hospital. He was a native of Alabama and had lived here most of his life. He was a member of the Spring Church of God, veteran of WWII, member of the American Legion Post 88 and was an honary Lt. Colonel aide-de-camp in the Alabama State Militia. Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Louise B. Smith, two sons, Maurice H. and Gary A. Smith, parents, Mr. and Mrs. Catherine Prescott. Mrs. Evelyn Bayer, all of Jacksonville and Mrs. Inez Roberts of Michigan, three brothers, Melvin L. Smith, Louis Smith and Jimmy Smith of Jacksonville and one grandson. Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Monday in the chapel of Fraser Funeral Home, 8168 Normandy Blvd. with the Rev. W. E. Mosley officiating. Interment will be in Evergreen Cemetery.
