ARCH ALBERTSON, 74, RETIRED OUTSTANDING POLICEMAN, DIES

Archie M. Albertson, 74, for many years one of the most familiar figures in a policeman's uniform here, died early this morning at a St. Joseph hospital where he was admitted Saturday.
Born at Agency, Mr. Albertson, son of Benjamin and Anna Virginia Pike Albertson, had lived here most of his life.
Mr. Albertson retired from the traffic department of the St. Joseph Police Department as a Sergeant on May 16, 1963. He was appointed to the department as a chauffer in 1937 and assigned to traffic September, 1941.
In 1945, Patrolman Albertson was assigned to the school boy patrol and in that capacity received the Jaycee good government award for the years he devoted to the patrol. Almost single-handedly he raised funds and planned outings for the members of the patrol, many times arranging for trips to Kansas City where the patrol received recognition for their services to the schools. He was also active for years in the Little League baseball teams. He had been an outstanding baseball player.
For many years Mr. Albertson was chairman of the board at Mitchell Park Christian Church. He retired from that office last month. A World War I Army veteran, he was a member of MacDonald-Dugger-Duncan Post NO 11; the Gold Star Legion, and the Woodmen of the World.
Survivors include his wife, Mrs. Edith (Beets) Albertson; one son, Melvin L. Albertson, Dallas; one granddaughter, Mrs. Charla Buckey, Kansas City; three sisters, Mrs. Jewell Foster, St. Joseph; Mrs. Ronald Emberton, Hamburg, IA and Mrs. Ernest Benitz, Troy; nieces & nephers. His son, Charles Otis Albertson, was killed in action in France during World War II. Charles Albertson's daughter, Mrs. Buckley, was born after his death.
The body is at the Meierhoffer-Fleeman mortuary.
