Harry Horace Sterner, our loving husband, father, grandfather, passed away March 16, 1997 in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Born Nov. 8, 1925 at Lewistown, Montana, to William R. and Ida May Lucier Sterner. Married Arlene Ruth Mathison, Feb. 16, 1947 in Ft. Benton, Montana. She died Aug. 19, 1963. Their marriage was later solemnized in the Cardston Alberta LDS Temple. Married Susan H. Trusty, Oct. 31, 1964 in the Cardston Alberta LDS Temple. She was his devoted and loving wife of 33 years. At the age of 17, he enlisted in the Navy, and served his country with honor during World War II aboard the USS Tennessee in the South Pacific Theater. He was a fireman engineer on the Great Northern Railroad for many years and then moved to S.L.C., where he worked for Phillips Petroleum Company. One of his most loved jobs was playing Santa to the children.
He was active in the LDS Church, serving as Temple Square guide, worker in the Salt Lake and Jordan River Temples, helped build two stake buildings, was a counselor in 3 bishoprics, high council in Murray West Stake, bishop of the Murray 29th Ward, and a stake missionary leader. He worked the Lehi Stake Church farm hoeing beets, fixing fences, plowing and driving grain trucks.
Though ill for many years, he never lost his love for life, his devotion for his wife and children, his sense of humor, his honesty and kindness touched us all. With his booming laughter he could gather you into his warm circle of love. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and outdoor activities. There is not enough room to tell about this special man.
He is survived by his wife, Susan, Murray; seven children, Steven Trusty, Murray; Patricia Sterner (Jon Moscow), New York; Arla Calvert, Portland; Bradley (Sherri) Trusty, Florida; Bruce (Jan), West Jordan; Gary (Dona), Holladay; Richard (Stacey), West Jordan; 22 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren. Preceded in death by parents, three brothers and son, Michael Trusty.
Our love and special thanks to the special, caring nurses, doctors and everyone at the VA Medical Center, for their support and excellent care throughout the years.
Funeral services will be held Sat, March 22, 1997 at 11 a.m. at the Murray 29th Ward, 6300 So. 700 West. Friends may call Fri., 6-8 p.m. at Redwood Memorial Estates, 6500 South Redwood Road, and one hour prior to services at the church. Interment, Redwood Memorial Estates.
