Louise Dudley Plane died peacefully, Wednesday, April 18, 2012, at her residence of eight years, Our Lady of Peace.

She was born in Bedford County, Virginia, on May 13, 1919, a daughter of the late Roy and Rose Dudley and the fourth of nine children. She was preceded in death by seven of her nine siblings, Gracie, Emma, Bud, Junior, Carlie, Alec, and Janie. Louise is survived by her daughter, Dr. Terry P. Muller; son-in-law Dr. Robert L. Muller; beloved granddaughters, Lauren A. Muller and Nicole P. Muller, all of Charlottesville, Virginia; and her son, Gregory Plane of Florida. Her older sister, Elizabeth Wade of Lynchburg; and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews and great-great-nieces and nephews, also survive her. Louise was a proud member of the Armed Forces, having served her country in both the United States Army and United States Air Force. She was the first woman from Central Virginia to enlist in the United States Air Force, when women were first admitted to the service. She loved to garden and work crossword puzzles, was an avid walker, and word game player. Besides her tremendous love for her family, Louise adored cats and raised many during her lifetime.

Louise's family would like to thank each and every one of the wonderful staff on the assisted living floor of Our Lady of Peace. A very special thank you to two very special women, Debbie and Rebecca of Our Lady of Peace for their compassionate, devoted, and loving care of Louise in her final days. They truly treated her with dignity and honor and she was clearly a part of their Our Lady of Peace family. Gratitude is also expressed to the staff of Hospice of the Piedmont. At Louise's request, there was a private family memorial.
