Ora H. Ellis, veteran Journal and Courier correspondent at Gladden’s Corner, died in the Bowles Convalescent Home at Clark’s Hill at 6:45 p.m. Sunday. He had been in failing health a year and a patient in the home three days. He was 81. Mr. Ellis was the correspondent from the Lauramie Township community for 65 years. He was born on a farm a mile east of Gladden’s Corner and spent his life there. He was retired from farming. He was currently the oldest active correspondent in point of years of service to the paper. He began writing the Gladden’s Corner news for the newspaper on April 1, 1902 and continued to send a weekly news report of the community’s citizens to the paper until failing health interrupted. He was hospitalized several times but always resumed writing until he became mortally ill late in July. Mr. Ellis was married to Mabel Pearl Buchanan at Indianapolis in 1910. He was a member of The Methodist Church at Stockwell and president of the Concord Cemetery Association for a number of years. He has no immediate survivors.
