Margaret "Maggie" Brennan was the eldest of 11 children of Patrick Brennan and Mary Ann Jordan. She was born in Lacken, Co Carlow, Ireland, and baptised at St. Lazarian RC Church in Leighlinbridge, Co. Carlow. Her sponsers were Joseph Leonard and Anna Carpenter

The family immigrated to Beckwith, Lanark County, Ontario not long after her birth and then settled in Holland Township in Grey County in the 1840s.

Maggie married a Mr. Hogan first; she was listed as "Widow Marg. Hogan" and the daughter of Patrick Brennan and Mary Ann Jordan when she married George Kohler 10 November 1860. They had five children: Catherine, Patrick, Margaret, Joseph, and Thomas.

After Maggie's death on 20 May 1870, George emigrated to the United States while the children stayed with Maggie's parents and siblings. Both Catherine and Patrick later emigrated to the US as well, settling in Schoolcraft county (Catherine) and first Schoolcraft then Delta (Patrick)

Maggie was buried in St Paul's Cemetery in the same plot her parents would later be buried in.
