In Memoriam

New Hampton, December 5th — Ernest Ezekiel Pike died at the hospital in Burlington, Vt., November 30, aged 33 years. The funeral services were held in New Hampton at the home of his mother, Mrs. Emma Howard where he spent his boyhood days with his grandparents, both of whom have passed away.

Rev. G.L. White of the village church spoke words of comfort to a sorrowing household. Singing was by a trio, Mrs. White, Professor and Mrs. Brown who sang Lead kindly Light and We are Fording the River One by One. Interment was in the New Hampton Village Cemetery where rests his grandparents and many more of his relatives and friends. The funeral was conducted by C.D. Thyng, Esq. The bearers were four cousins. There were floral tributes in profusion, a large piece from the concrete men who were in his employ, also all or the relatives who came to the funeral. The casket was literally covered, many pieces being banked underneath.

Mr. Pike leaves a mother who is heart-broken and a wife and three small children, the oldest 10 years old. The mother is the wife of S.A. Howard and the wife is the daughter of David M. Calley of Bristol.

Mr. Pike made his home until he was 18 years old with his grandparents in New Hampton at what is known as the old homestead. He received his education at Hanover schools and New Hampton Institution. He entered the employ of Eugene F. Moore, a concrete paver at the age 0f 18 and continued in his employ until his death. Mr. Moore speaks very highly of him and his natural ability as a business man.

It may not be out of place at this time to speak of the many good qualities Ernest had. He had a large heart and was always ready to lend a helping hand to anyone who asked aid from him. He was a very kind husband and father. His life work ended and we say the last farewell.

We lay thee down to sleep,
A husband, father, son and friend
We weep with those who weep.
Our tears with theirs will blend.

Thou will not be forgot
When we together meet,
We'll give thee place in kindly thought
And oft thy name repeat
We say a last good-bye
And leave thee to thy rest,
While changing months and years go by
Above thy pulseless breast.

Yet faith will point the way
To that bright home above.
We'll find dear Ernest some glad day.
