Carrie Mae Sherrer was born in Crawford (Oglethorpe County), Georgia, daughter of Guy Terrell Sherrer and Zettie Lutine King Sherrer, on January 20, 1923. She died on June 23, 1923 of pyloric stenosis and dysentery. That means the passage out of her stomach was constricted. She would have experienced violent vomiting and dehydration. Surgery necessary to remedy this problem only began a dozen years before she was born.
Carrie Mae's death certificate can be found online, but her name is misspelled as Carry May.
The death date on her stone is actually the date she was originally buried in the Arnoldsville Cemetery in the Manuel Arthur King plot (her maternal grandfather). She was later moved to Oconee to rest beside her parents.
Carrie Mae was named for her maternal grandmother, Susan Carrie Purcell King, and for her Aunt Mae King Prickett.
