Earl F. Chapin, 83, Merriam, died Saturday, Aug. 13, 2005, at the Sweet Life of Rosehill, Shawnee. Services Wednesday at the First Baptist Church of Shawnee with burial in the Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Visitation was Tuesday at the Amos Family Chapel of Shawnee. Memorials to the First Baptist Church Youth Fund, Shawnee KS 66203; or Odyssey Hospice of Kansas City, Kansas City MO for the Patient Emergency Fund.

Mr. Chapin was born Dec. 4, 1921, in Kansas City, Kan., to Herbert Franshaw and Esther (Shenkel) Chapin. He was a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. Mr. Chapin worked for Colgate-Palmolive for 39 years, retiring in 1976. He was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church of Shawnee, the Armourdale Masonic Lodge and was a respected Elder in the Wyandot Nation of Kansas.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Ferne Marie Carter; infant brother, Milford Chapin; and his beloved beagle, Muppy.

Survivors include his wife, Evelyn (Zane) Chapin, of the home; two daughters and their families, Janith K. and Edward English, Prairie Village; and their three children, Darren Zane English, San Francisco, Calif.; Martin L. English and wife, Cynthia Hyer-English, Kansas City, Mo.; and Tanya R. English, Belton, Mo.; and granddaughter, Taylor English-Catlett; and Carolyn (Cookie) and Ron Stapp, Overland Park; their two children, Stephanie K. Bennett and husband, Richard, Colorado Springs, Colo.; and Jonathan David Stapp and wife, Rae, Olathe; four grandchildren, Parker Bennett, Macy Bennett, Samantha Stapp and Blake Stapp; and a brother and sister-in-law, Paul Eugene and Lavon Chapin, Littleton, Colo.
