Born Oct. 25, 1923, in Maryland Township, Ogle County, daughter of William Hartje Sr. and Louise (Kreimyer) Hartje. Graduate of Leaf River (Ill.) High School, Class of 1942. Married Wilson "Red" Baker on Feb. 14, 1946, in Leaf River; he died Oct. 3, 2000. She was a homemaker and lived in the Leaf River area for 85 years. Member of Leaf River United Methodist Church, Auxiliary of Jerry Wickum American Legion Post, Auxiliary of Marine Corp League in Rockford, Leaf River Historical Society.
Served as a riveter during World War II and was a honoree in the "Rosie The Riveter" exhibit in the Wartime Museum in Richmond, Calif.
Survived by son, Phillip (Patricia) Baker; daughters, Janet (Edward) Raczka, and Cathy (Tony) Sisto; grandchildren, Erin (J.P.) Lange, Ethan (Michele) Raczka, Dr. Megan Raczka, Lindsay Raczka, Anthony (Christina) Sisto, Joel Sisto and Lauren (David) Zuperku; great-grandchildren, Gannon Paul, Gage Wilson and Teagan Lange; brother, William (Dorothy) Hartje Jr.; and sisters, Alma Baker and Berniece Davis and Lorraine (Roger) Cheek.
Predeceased also by parents; brothers, Clifford, Alfred, Arnold and Rudolph Hartje; and sisters, Dorothy Kilker, Esther Hamilton, Ruth Stukenberg and Irma Fry.
Service at 11 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 31, in United Methodist Church, Leaf River, with the Rev. Kent Svendsen, pastor, officiating.
Burial in Chapel Hill Memorial Park, Freeport. Visitation from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday, Jan. 30, in Finch Funeral Home, also from 10 a.m. Saturday to time of service in the church. Memorials to Jerry Wickum American Legion Post, Leaf River, or United Methodist Church, Leaf River.
