Don Glasser's Orchestra was one of the last traveling 'Sweet Bands' in North America. His "Music Smooth As Glass" was a popular fixture at New York City's Roseland Dance City and The Peabody Hotel's Skyway Ballroom in Memphis Tennessee. Yearly trips to The Hotel Royal York in Toronto, Ontario, Canada were also profitable for the band. In the early 1960's, Don broke the attendance record at Roseland when over 3000 dancers showed up to listen and dance to his band. The orchestra, which was formed in 1953 by Don and his vocalist/wife Lois Costello, was styled in the manner of Guy Lombardo but had it's own arrangements. Don was not only an excellent saxophonist and clarinetist, but also a very talented arranger. He studied arranging under Johnny Warrington. 99% of the Glasser band's arrangements were penned by Don. In 1997, after suffering a series of strokes, Don turned the band over to Lois Costello, who has been directing it ever since. She currently headlines at "The Club, Inc.," a high class venue in Birmingham, Alabama. At one time, Don played saxophone and clarinet in the bands of Art Kassel and Ray Pearl.
