Dancing Instructor
Mr. Benjamin B. Lovett was the Old Fashion Dance instructor to Henry Ford. Mr. and Mrs. Ford wanted to revive the old fashion Square Dances they remembered in their youth. Mr. Lovett and his wife Charlotte were hired to teach the young people in Dearborn, MI and around the country, the Virginia Reel, Quadrille, and other dances of their era. He had a orchestra to back up his callings during the dances, and performed at Fair Lane, Mr. Ford's Mansion and his home in Richmond Hill, GA. Mr. Lovett also went to the local schools in the area and certain schools out of state, to teach the dances Mr. Ford wanted to be revived. He would take one student at a school that performed the Quadrille etc. well, and they were allowed to dance at Henry Ford's home. Usually the lucky student would be able to dance with Mr. Ford or Mrs. Ford, showing their new dance talent at one of their Old Fashion Dance Parties. Mr. Ford honored him by naming Lovett Hall at The Henry Ford in Dearborn, MI after him, which Mr. Lovett performed at. Where he also had been the Head School Master of the Village Schools, during the 1930's.
